Leftovers: Words from Blake

Hi Folks

It’s Blake and I’m here to talk about shampoos and conditioners.

Here’s my take on shampoo………..

I grew up using Prell Shampoo.  I’m assuming the major reasoning for Mom buying Prell was its economic value……….. but I bet the real reason was for the unbreakable tube!  I don’t think I can count the number of times I dropped the shampoo while in the shower.  To this day the smell of Prell brings back warm memories of home.
The only other shampoo Mom bought was Head andShoulders  - this was purchased in the winter months when we had the wood stove cranking out all that nice heat – yep the kind of heat that dries out your mittens, socks, and scalps!  Truth be told, I still buy Head and Shouldersshampoo. It’s rather nice to be able to reach up and grab the Head and Shoulders during dandruff season.   It worked on my dandruff as a child and still works on my dandruff now.

When I hit my teen age years I had a job and so I had my own spending money, which enabled me to buy different shampoos. My list included Lemon Up, Wheat Germ and Honey, and Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific.  These shampoos all lived up to my expectations.  They did an excellent job in keeping my hair clean and shiny.  When someone mentioned that my hair looked nice I could brag that I was using all these “cool” shampoos.  Okay I’m using the word “cool” – it was the 70’s after all!!!

It’s now years later and Mom was right (did I just say that???) ……………I buy shampoo now for its economic value.  I have an extremely oily scalp.  When I get out of bed in the morning my hair is matted on one side and standing straight up on the other side!  My morning reflection in the mirror is not a glamorous look for sure!!!  My scalp is oily enough for me to shampoo every morning – yes I said every morning.   For the last several years I’ve become more cost conscious (haven’t we all) so I find myself buying Suave Naturals Family Size Shampoo.  This shampoo more than meets my needs. Since I shampoo daily I lather and rinse only once. Suave Naturals Shampoo meets all my requirements for clean and shiny hair.  I prefer the Mango Mandarin scent but… Suave has several scents to choose from – more than enough to make everyone happy!!

Now on to conditioners……………………..

I’m about as hard on my hair as anyone can be.  I get a perm every 6 months, I get color added every 8 weeks, I shampoo every day, and I use the blow dryer and curling iron on a regular basis.  The one thing I do to combat the beating I give my hair – is I use a great conditioner.

I’ve been using ABBA’s Nourishing Conditioner - Leave On Moisturizer for about 7 years or so.  I would classify this product as FANTASTIC!!!  When I first started using this product is was only available in a salon.  I was overjoyed when it became available in the stores!!  This product can be used as a conditioner that you put in and rinse out - which is great to use when working with a new perm.  It can be used as a leave in moisturizer that you apply to damp hair.  It can also be used on our legs as a shaving lotion.  In my book that makes this product extremely versatile for sure!!!   Abba Nourishing Conditioner – Leave On Moisturizer has kept my hair soft and shiny for many years.  This is rather remarkable comments if you take into consideration all the “bad” things I do to my hair.  I do believe that ABBA Hair Care Products has recently changed the name from ABBA Nourishing Conditioner - Leave On Moisturizer to ABBA Pure Gentle Conditioner.

Just this week I’ve tried a different conditioner (thanks to Jessica) called Root Awakening from the John Frieda Collection.  I came into the office and Sara said “did you have your hair done this weekend, it looks great!  Well comments like that kinda makes one take notice.  The product claims that it controls style & adds shine from roots to ends.  These claims are so very true!!!  The shine in my hair was remarkable.  Root Awakening has what it takes to combat the harsh winters we have in Maine.

Remember take time to enjoy life!
