I’ve been using Jane Iredale’s mineral makeup for the past few years. When I heard about how gentle and healthy the makeup is—gentle enough, even, that many plastic surgeons and dermatologists recommend it—I made the switch! I don’t have sensitive skin; I’ve never had any “work” done; and I haven’t been to a dermatologist since I was a teenager; yet I figured that if a makeup is that gentle and good for you, why wouldn’t I use it? I was immediately hooked, and haven’t turned back yet.
Jane Iredale’s self tanning product is fairly new to the market (we first saw it in the most recent New Beauty Test Tube) and lives up to the standards set by her makeup, entirely. The first thing you notice about Tantasia is it’s delightful citrus scent (versus the potent chemical scents of many self tanners). The scent is light and gentle, just like the product itself, which is so moisturizing that it can actually be used in lieu of a moisturizer—I like a lot of moisture, so when the product tube noted that additional moisturizer wasn’t necessary, I didn’t believe it…but I was disproved immediately!
The product has a silky texture, applies easily, and leaves a very light golden color. If you're someone who likes an immediate deep tan from your self tanner, this product is probably not for you. I was using the product on my face and neck, and liked being in control of the color. My self tanners of yore provided an immediate deep glow, but with Tantasia, I was in control to build up to the desired color, and then applied every other day thereafter. Not only are the ingredients healthier and more “natural” than many similar products (so you don't feel badly about applying many days in a row), but I had a much more “natural glow” with Tantasia as well.
Finally, this didn’t occur to me until recently, but one of my other favorite parts about Tantasia is it’s name. As I read recently in Women’s Health, there’s a lot behind a beauty product’s name. I don't want to call this my self-tanner, but instead my "tantasia"...like a fantasy, or Disney's crazy Fantasia, this product puts a big grin on my face.
If you couldn’t already tell, I really like Tantasia, and I LOVE the idea of how many healthier sunless tanners have been introduced to the market this year! With so many great sunless face tanners, there’s no excuse not to wear your high (and healthy!) SPF, stay in the shade (I still need to work on this…), and still look good.
