Okay so you put your sunscreen on (before getting into the sun) and laid your towel out at your favorite spot on the beach. The sun is so warm and a nice cooling breeze makes it the perfect day to lie out and achieve a tan…finally! The ocean waves are so relaxing and there are actually no screaming kids around or huge families setting up camp two feet from you trying to play football in your space. You close your eyes and drift off…
Before you know it you are suddenly ripped from your relaxing sleep to find 
yourself surrounded by strangers invading your personal space, seagulls eating your lunch and a naked two year old is throwing sand at you while the parents look the other way. To top off this nightmare you look down only to find your skin is as red as a lobster! Now what?!
After yelling at myself on the way home about not using a stronger SPF, I take a cool shower and put on all the Aloe gel that I can. I actually just discovered (well, it was always in my house as a kid but I never thought about it until recently) and started using Witch Hazel, which helps to heal minor burns….like a sunburn. So I now rub that all over the burn area and it has been an amazing natural remedy! The benefits of Witch Hazel do so much I also use it on my face every night and day before lotions, creams, serums and makeup. I was actually at a networking event and talking to this nice lady that had amazing skin. I asked her what her secret is and she said she just uses Witch Hazel!
For an after sun lotion I had a great experience with Designer Skin’s Angel Daily Moisturizer with Hemp Seed Extract and a yummy Kiwi Pear fragrance. It also claims to be anti-aging, firming and packed with vitamin D to protect and soothe skin. I am not sure if it helped my sunburn go away any faster but it was very soothing to put on and it definitely moisturized my inflamed skin.
As always, you can’t do too much about the peeling skin after a sunburn, but as I had blogged about before in my June 15th Blog, Nivea My
Silhouette! Redefining Gel-Cream with Bio-Slim Complex took away my peeling skin from a sunburn and it lasted all day! The scent (as I have stated before) it so wonderful, you don’t even need to put on perfume and I LOVE the gel consistency for the product because it absorbs fast into the skin.
I hope this has helped you for when you experience the burn from the sun…I will now be walking around with a red front side and a white back side…*sigh*…until I have time to correct my uneven “tan” with a quick trip to the salon for a Mystic Tan.
Burns are just reminders to be good to your skin and to yourselves; you only have one body and one life to live!
