So this is Thanksgiving week :) We are all getting ready to see family or friends we have not in a while, traveling, running around and just beginning the holiday season. You are going to be seeing people and people seeing you... so eye treatments are definitely something I think everyone will be looking into using.
Now, there an many different types of eye treatments out there and they all address different needs. There a number of ingredients that I mention below are great because they will address multiple issues and are definite "look fors" in any eye product ingredient deck.
I would like to talk about some of the eye concerns that people (Men & Women) have and some ingredients to look for in products which will address those concerns.
Puffy Eyes- Some of the Best treatments for puffy eyes is Caffeine, Now caffeine can be in the formula itself, or it is achieved through other ingredients, like teas. Tea is a great way to get the caffeine and tannins on your skin to decrease the puffiness and brighten the skins. Kombucha is a relatively new ingredient on the market and that is great, because it is a mushroom that is steeped in black tea. Brightening effects form Mushrooms and anti puffiness from Tea, Double bonus. The ingredient name on the packaging for Kombucha is SACCHAOYCES / XYLITUM BLACK TEA FERMENT.
Dark Circles - . There are not a lot of ingredients out there address dark circles under the eyes because it is a difficult issue to address. But there are some, there are seaweeds and peptides, like Haloxyl (which is a trade name) Ingredient name in the ingredient deck : Water (and) Glycerin (and) Steareth-20 (and) Hydroxysuccinimide (and) Chrysin (and) Palmitoyl Oligopeptide (and) Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7. Vitamin K, which strengthens the skins barrier. There are ingredients that brighten the skin as well which in turn decrease the appearance of the dark circles, through their light reflective properties. I also always, always, always, wear concealer.....
Fine lines & wrinkles - This is a very popular topic. Get rid of my wrinkles :). Well my favorite ingredient is Sodium Hyaluronate, also know as Hyaluronic acid. This ingredient gets under the skin and can hold up to 100 times its weight in water, which in turn will plump out the fine lines and wrinkles. Pullulan is another great algae that offers firming properties, for an instant lift. Hydrolyzed wheat is another great instant firmer. Some of the more aggressive instant firmers use Magnesium Aluminum Silicate...this would be for someone with more pronounced wrinkles, not just a few very fines lines... Silicones also fill in the small fine lines, to give a smoother appearance.
Anti Aging / preventative- Sunscreen, and anti- oxidants. You want to prevent damage, then there are a few things you can do.
1. Be gentle to your eyes.
2. do not pull on the skin, pat make up on and remove with care.
3. always moisturize
4. always remove your eye make-up before going to bed
Brightening- This is a great thing to look for. There are many great ingredients on the market that will brighten the skin, which will give a revitalised look to the skin. Vitamin C, Algae extracts, yeast extracts, as well as a lot of fruit and berry extracts, as well as green tea and white tea.
Bags under the eyes /Saggy lids - Firming ingredients are what you want to look for as well as the ingredients that I mentioned above in the puffy category.
I have far from mentioned everything that is available on the market, There are a lot of great ingredients out there to address all sorts of issues.
If there is an ingredient or a product that you love, I would love to hear about it. OR if you would like some more specific information on any of the above topics, please let me know.
Happy Monday.
