overnight fixes

Sara
Good Monday,

So a great way to get some of the treatments I need to my skin are though overnight products.... I am sure you know the joke of not enough hours in a day, lol... So I use the night too...

The 2 most common reasons people need night treatments are for exfoliation/ rejuvenating and blemish control/ acne or pimple treatments... there are treatments for hydrations and mositurization as well...

For this blog I am going to focus on the types of ingredients to look for in an effective night time exfoliating treatment.

If you would like to give your face a bit of  pick me up, rejuvenate your complexion then a nighttime exfoliating treatment is probably something that can help you.  (please do not try something new the night before a big event)...    These types of products are going to call themselves nighttime brightener, rejuvenator, refinisher, etc. All of these products use a combination of ingredients to achieve the exfoliation.

Alpha Hydroxy Acid
What you want to look for is the use of AHA's, AHA is Alpha Hydroxy Acids.  In simple terms AHAs are chemical exfoliators.  (Important Note: In this instance chemical does not mean synthetic, Exfoliators come in 2 forms mechanical/ physical (like a scrub) or chemical like and Aha or an enzyme..) Some very effective AHA's are Salicylic acid, there are a number of fruit acids like, billberry extract, lemon extract, willow bark extract, Sugar cane, Malic acid,  and /orTataric acid, just to list a few.  Salicylic is the most effective and can be put into any cosmetic formula up to a certain percent before the product is considered and OTC (Over The Counter like a sunscreen).

Also these types of products also use Vitamin C because of the brightening qualities, Vitamin E for its soothing aspects and lots of anti-oxidants. Different names for Vitamin C are, ascorbic acid, magnesium ascorbyl phosphate, sodium ascorbyl phosphate, acerola cherries and many more.   Different names for Vitamin E are Tocopherol Acetate, Tocopherol Phosphate and or Tocopherol.   There are many ingredients that have anti oxidant qualities, and that will be a blog in itself.

One of the other aspects of these treatments is the pH level.  The pH will determine how much tingle you get from the product. You won't see anything about the pH on the box, but the lower the pH the stronger and the more red your skin may get... If you are concerned you can email most brands for that type of information.

There are of course many other ingredients in each different type of formula, which will determine whether it is a cream, a lotion, or a serum.

Make sure to keep these types of products away from your eye, they tend to have a bite to them and can irritate the eye area.

But I do recommend following the cream down your neck and onto the decollete.  this skin gets as much damage as the face on a day to day basis.

Have fun on your search... I would love to hear about the different types of night rejuvenating treatments you use and like.

Have a great week
Sara
