IPL means Intense Pulsed Light

Sara
Happy Monday!!!
So September has rolled in and Fall is here. This is a really good time to take a look at your skin (minus the make-up) and see what damage summer has brought.

Now that I am not going to be in the sun as much and now that is it not as strong... as well as the fact, the holidays are just around the corner... now is the time I set up my appointments at the Medi Spa.

Lets just premise that I am the Queen of Freckles.   I can compete with any redhead out there!  But the problem is not all my freckles are cute freckles.  Some are sun damage, also known as Hyper-pigmentation.  As I have gotten older, it is easier to see the difference. So one of the regular treatments I go for is IPL.  IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light treatment. Each year I assess my face and go to the Medi Spa and meet with the Nurse that does the procedure and have a least 4 spots on my face addressed.

IPL treatment improves the appearance of skin by removing age spots (sun-induced freckles, but not cute ones), most benign brown pigments, and redness caused by broken capillaries. The procedure is not invasive so since i have such a crazy busy lifestyle and the procedure requires no downtime and has a low risk of side effects, it is perfect for me.

The treatment uses broad spectrum light to treat the face, chest, neck and hands—virtually anywhere that sun damage shows. Broad spectrum of light is transmitted through a small, smooth hand piece which is gently placed over the skin.

Then after the treatment is done, I use an ice pack or at least a piece of ice in a paper towel on the spots you had done... (please talk to the Doctor or Nurse about this, for what is best for you).   the after the next day or so the spot will turn dark and get almost black like a scab.  After about 10 Days, it will fall off like a scab.  Do not pick at it!!!!

This can be used to treat broken capillaries as well. I had one on my face, it was all I saw in the mirror.

It is not permanent, but for me each treatment has lasted a couple of years, before I even start to see the re-emergence of the sun spot.

I will be sure to Post before and afters next time I go.

Have a great week!

Sara
