It took me a while before I found the right perfume. I wanted to like the fragrance of course, but I also wanted a perfume that suited my style and my personality—a perfume that would become a staple in my everyday routine, but still a little bit sultry enough to wear during a night out. It’s a tall order for a perfume, and like I said, it took me a while to find it. A few years ago I found Chanel Coco Mademoiselle and adopted it as my signature scent.
Chanel was not my first choice of perfume. I was pretty set on another brand, but this is where I learned the importance of trying perfume on your skin before making a decision. So I sprayed Chanel Coco Mademoiselle and the other perfume on separate wrists and I walked out of the store, away from the overwhelming, head spinning amount of perfume, and let the two different fragrances sink into my skin. After walking around, I knew the Chanel Coco Mademoiselle was the one for me; I loved the scent so much more on my skin than I had on the paper tester. The perfume is very strong when you first spray it, but once it has a chance to settle, the fragrance transforms. I think it has a clean, floral scent, and is a little bit musty. When I wear it I feel sophisticated, elegant, and classy.
Although Chanel is expensive, it’s one of the few beauty products I splurge on. One 1.7 fl. oz. bottle has lasted me three years, and I use it almost everyday. So when choosing a perfume, I approached it almost like I do clothes. How do I want to feel when I wear the perfume? And how do I want to portray myself? I think asking questions like these will lead you to find a signature scent, one that will stay with you for years.
