Hi everyone, It’s Beckie.
I’m sure that you’ve heard the phrase, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” I believe that this is so true. Especially if you watch and red carpet event and the commentary of the worst and best dressed. Recently, the beautiful and what I think talented, Charlize Theron , was criticized for her choice of attire on the red carpet. Personally I thought she looked amazing as usual, but some of the comments made were not so nice. My first thought was of jealousy and then I thought, hey they can have their own opinion, why? Because “Beauty is in the eye”… you get it.
As women, we spend millions of dollars every year to make ourselves both look and feel better. Whether it be make up, clothes or even spa treatments. Every woman’s magazine has advertisements for ways to make us look more beautiful. My question to you as the reader is, where do you draw the line? At what point do you say, this is as good as it’s going to get. Believe me there are mornings when I look in the mirror and say those very words. Or do you go the extra mile and have plastic surgery done. Do you know that over 9 million people in the United States last year had some sort of plastic surgery performed? Our population was 313 million. Now I’m not saying I’m for or against it, because I’ve contemplated having some done, especially after watching the Victoria’s Secret fashion show, but would having the surgery truly make me happy?
I know that this is a beauty blog but some of the most beautiful people in my life would not be considered by society as runway material. One of which is my Dad. As handsome and dapper as he is, he is the kindest most giving person I know and is constantly being harassed by my Mom about his hair and how it has a mind of its own. Bottom line, my Dad doesn’t really care about looks. One of the best lessons he has taught me is to look past the external appearances of people and into their souls. Listen to them because you never know who you may be talking to. Just because an individual doesn’t “appear” to have the right look, a smile and a kind hello, may make their day.
I believe that beauty comes from within. An individual could spend thousands of dollars on products and treatments and still be ugly and mean. Especially this time of the year when things can get a little crazy and tempers run high; take a deep breath and smile. Stress causes so many health problems and wreaks havoc on your skin, let that other stressful shopper have the parking spot. Better yet, wave at them (with all 5 fingers) and wish them Happy Holidays!
Remember happy people live longer!
Cheers to a great weekend!
Beckie b
