Lips, Lips, Lips. February is our month to talk about Lips. This may seem like a lot but there is so much that you can say about how to protect, treat, repair, color and then of course dress up! It will take a entire month!
Your lips are so important, They are one of the first things that people see when they look at you.
So in the winter when everything when your skin is dry and cracking, of course your lips are as well, and they are red, and raw... Oh poor lips they take such abuse in the winter... Which of course means you are trying to cover them with gloss or lipstick, but it does not look very good because the better condition your lips are in the better the make-up is going to sit and look.
So lets do something about it! Take charge of the condition of your lips before they start to hurt, so they stay happy and healthy!
Because you are in and out of the cold, and dry heated environments, you need to make sure you are using protective lip balms during the day and healing ones at night. Once in a while it is good to use a lip scrub as well, to remove some of the dry flaking skin and then afterwards make sure you apply a very healing and soothing lip balm.
Most lip balms are made out of either petroleum jelly or wax (like Beeswax) base, along with Fats, and oils. The wax or petroleum act like a cover and stay on top of the lip to protect it from harsh environments and the oils and fats soften and treat the lips.
Here is a list of a few great ingredients I would make sure to look for in a lip balm, whether you prefer natural products or purchase more traditional brands:
- Lanolin
- Allantion
- Coco Butter
- Shea Butter
- Almond Oil
- Grapeseed Oil
- Vitamin E - Tocopherol Acetate
- Jojoba oil
- Avocado oil
- Sunflower Oil
- Caster Oil (or Hydrogenated Castor Oil)
- Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride
- Coconut Oil
Essential oils are used for flavoring and scent
If you would like to know more about any of the above ingredients and what they can do for you please feel free to contact me!
Have a great week.
