Blake's Best Nail Polish Picks

Hi Folks,

Blake here to talk about: Nail Polish

Time is the key in the world of nail polish. Polish needs time to dry or you’ll end up with sheet marks.  Those of you who wear polish know what I’m talking about……Over the years I’ve learned that you just can’t hurry nail polish. Polish will dry when it’s ready and not before.  One key factor in dry time is the humidity.  More humidity = longer dry time.

I’m a big advocate of putting on a base coat before applying any polish.  The base coat fills in the ridges and makes the polish look professional.  The use of a base coat also keeps the polish from staining the nail beds.

I’m an avid user of Sally Hansen Insta-Dri nail polish. The dry time is what makes this polish so attractive. Generally it talks less than 5 minutes for a coat of this polish to dry. After all who has the time to wait for polish to dry? Sally Hansen Insta-Dri polish has an abundance of colors and my local Walmart carries it a reasonable price.

When I use “traditional” polishes that have the longer dry times – I try to multi-task….. I get into my car, put on my nail polish, and then drive to work. This gives me plenty of time to let my nails dry (I just have to remember to put the seat belt on before the polish!).

Other polishes that I use include: Revlon, OPI, China Glaze, Maybelline Express, Sally Hansen Diamond Strength No Chip, and Zoya.

So the question is – which polish is the best?  The answer depends on the look I want to achieve and the time I have available:

o   OPI and Sally Hansen Diamond Strength typically need 3 coats to “match” the color in the bottle.

o   Revlon, Sally Hansen Insta-Dri, Sally HansenXtreme Wear, and Zoya polishes generally need two coats to bring out the true color.

o   China Glaze: one coat is all it takes to look like the color in the bottle.

Remember take time to enjoy life!
