Sticking With An Old Favorite

Hi my name is Sara, and I grew up in the skin care industry. My first job, at age 12, was in the basement of Saks Fifth Avenue in New York, assembling holiday gifts for the sales girls on the floor, typing in their customer cards, and basically doing anything they would let me…

Fast forward a couple decades, and, after working for various skin care brands, I am now the Vice President at First Impact New York. I help formulate new ingredient combinations and turn people’s concepts into full fledge products you see on store shelves…which is just as much FUN as it sounds!
For my personal use, I am a hard sell: I have to read it first, and then try it to believe it…because I actually know what’s in there.

Basically, I’m the ultimate ingredient reader. I base all my decisions on whether to buy a product on the ingredients that are in it. When it comes to my personal skin care products I use at home, I have never really been a trend follower. I am the classic sweater set and khakis kind of girl all across the board: clothes, skin care, color make-up (this is where sassy happens sometimes! ), fragrance, etc.

Well, after turning 30 and having a couple of kids, evidently your skin changes! I used to have dry/sensitive skin. Now—if you can believe it—I have combination skin with acne issues…I’m over 30 and just now starting to break out!!! Even worse, I work in the skin care business! Talk about pressure… my skin has to be PERFECT!!!

All that being said, I have to try a lot of products all day long for work. I have to try products that are recommended to me, I have to try things that are interesting, and I have to try things for inspiration…so beyond my specialized knowledge of ingredients, I also have a good idea of the products out there today, because I’ve tried tons of them!

Today’s topic is face scrubs. I have been partial to Organic Complexion’s Micro Polish since the day I tried it. While I don’t usually care about product fragrance, for me, this product begins with the smell: it has a fresh lime scent that makes me think of the beach. The scrub factor (or physical exfoliator) is made of Diatomaceous earth, which gives it a serious scrub factor without being scratchy; in fact, it is actually quite gentle and refined. Most importantly, you are left with a clean-feeling face. I definitely like my scrub to feel like a scrub, and personally really like there to be a clear difference between my exfoliator and my cleanser. With the Micro Polish, I can feel the difference. Although (especially lately, in the spring season) I have been given a bunch of new and “HOT” scrubs to try—and I have tried and used them all—for now, you will still find my Micro Polish in my bathroom.
