Good Morning all. Fresh from a very interesting conference in Miami, I thought I'd share some of the new devices and techniques on the horizon in non-invasive cosmetic medicine.

Gone are the days of collagen. Back n the day, one would be skin tested for collagen prior to injection due to the high allergic reaction rate.  As long as that was negative you were all set for your filler injection that will last a whopping 3 to 4 months. Over the last decade there have been some really significant improvements in fillers. Products such as Juvederm and Restylane which are made up of long lasting hyaluronic acid can last up to a year while maintaining a very high safety profile.

Recently Sculptra has gained popularity. These tiny little microspheres induce the production of your own collagen. While it does take a few months to build, the results can last up to 2 years and look very natural.

The latest buzz at the conference was on something called LAVIV. With this process, your physician actually takes a small biopsy of skin from behind your ear and sends it to a lab where your own collagen producing cells are grown and multiplied. It is then shipped back to the physician's office for injection. The cells then get to work making your own collagen. Studies for FDA approval showed production for at least 6 months but it should last at least 2 years.

As always, patience is a virtue and I recommend watching the product on the market for a year or so to see if the longevity is really there because it is pricey.

  1. Plastic surgery is a controversial field that many doctors invest a lot of time and money in. They believe in the power of the field and have
their own reasons for supporting it, despite a lot of alternative viewpoints. There is a reason for this support and this type of often dangerous surgery is supported for many reasons. The best way to explain plastic surgery as a result of medical advances is to take a look at what it is and explain the way it functions to better our world and make us safer. Physicians from around the world support plastic surgery as a viable and productive form of the medical field.

  2. Hi friends,

Cosmetic surgery is both incredibly common and incredibly popular. The need to empower yourself and feel beautiful about the way you look has lead millions of people to undergo surgical procedures to change their appearance. Thanks a lot...

  3. The healthcare industry will continue to develop so there's no wonder cosmetic surgery is changing.
Then best thing about it is that it became affordable and safer that it was once.
Now any of us can easily find a good clinic and have any procedure.

I always wanted to have a perfect abdomen and a few months ago my dream came true. I went for a combination of tummy tuck and liposuction in Toronto and the result is amazing. This is the most beautiful summer ever:D

  4. Cosmetic surgery is concerned with, improving the aesthetic appearance of a person, while plastic surgery may include this, or just the reconstruction. Reconstructive plastic surgery is concerned with, the improving function; however, it may also involve trying to approximate normal appearance, but that is not, its primary function.
