Familiar Faces in Unfamiliar Places

Lucky for us, SPF protection can be found in the most unexpected places these days—not only in the types of products we’ve already discussed (tinted face sunscreens, sporty sunscreen balls, lip sunscreen, etc.), but also in many new and interesting products like SPF clothing, swimwear, and this week’s topic…SPF make-up!

The benefits of SPF make-up are plentiful. For instance, I don’t wear much make-up in the summer, but when I do, it’s usually to a party, wedding, or other event. Since summer nights are so nice and long, these events usually begin outside, when the sun’s still strong as ever...and I still need protection. I hate wearing tons of stuff (and feeling even more uncomfortable than I already do in heels…sinking into the grass…) so I make sure to pick my summer make-up colors with as much SPF as possible (so I don't have to cake on even more product!)

I’ve been using mineral makeup for a while now, and as mentioned in the past (LINK), I’m a big fan of many Jane Iredale products. Here’s an interesting fact I just discovered: if you're wearing ANY mineral blushes and powders whatsoever, you may already be protected from the sun. The minerals in these powders are physical sun ray blockers, and oftentimes contain an SPF of around 20. How's that for sunscreen in an unexpected place...they're not even labeled as such!

Definitely don't rely on all mineral cosmetics for protection, but if you'd like to begin using some mineral products this summer (now that you know about their protection factor) I must recommend my all time favorite. Jane Iredale's "So Bronze" Duo has been my favorite summertime product for years now. It applies evenly, has a slight shimmer, feels great on my skin, and adds the absolute perfect color. I get compliments on it all the time, and hope you will too!
